what are the various fuel cell manufacturers that make VERTICAL or bottom sump cells?

I can google with the best of them, looking for answers from folks that have been there/done that.

Beezil, I have a Summit racing cell. I think this is what you mean by "bottom sump". Pretty reasonable price, and looks good to boot.

that would be cool mounted vertically, but what's up with the centered fill cap?

seems to me you'd have to deal with a half-full tank?

Well, its 15 gallon and I only need about 5 gallons.

Really, it mounts horizontally with the filler on top. The two sumps are at the bottom. The cell drops down another 2 inches right at the sumps. Kinda hard to see or explain, but thats the only picture I could find.

You don't want that one, trust me. If'n ya do, I'll make ya a great deal on mine.

The sump needs to be in the center of the bottom. Oil can lookin' dealy is what you want. I now know this is why my pump went down. It sucked air coming down the rim and that's what did it in. I even had a half tank of fuel.

Hey oneton, I picked up used (kinda, its brand new, guy didn't use it). Would it be feasible to place the cell "sideways", because we spend more time vertical than offcamber, or would it be better to cut out the sump and reweld it in the center?

cut and re-weld? damn sewer, if i knew how to properly weld aluminum so that it would make a leak free fuel cell, I wouldn't even post this!

do you know someone who can mod yours? that would be pretty cool.

to answer your q's before, the jeep performed way better than expected. It can climb, sidehill, has ample flex, is well-balanced and very stable. The wishbone front suspension is definitly trail-tested, and it freakin works! The only thjing I wanna do is get rid of the bumper/stock tank area, basically, just do a mild tail-bobbin', add a fuel cell and re-make the rear 4-link mounts so they are more durable. Thats it! its cool i finally got a rig together that I fell like I wanna drive instead of rip apart out of frustration.

see you on purgatory or mission impossible sometime soon!

B, where's your certified pipefitting welder at????

I've got a buddy that can do it here. I may try and do it myself with MIG instead of TIG. I don't think my machine has enough heat to do it though. Guess it's time to get those TIG classes under my belt.

There isn't a cell out there that is made like this, it's custom baby. There's a way around all this cutting, but you probably don't want to know what it is. It's a racing trick my bro told me about, don't know how well it would work for us.

maybe I'll just make one out of 20 ga. crs.....

I've made fuel tanks before, aint no thang....

also, i can throw in foam blocks to boot.

i still wish there was an easy and effective ALUMINUM aftermarket solution.

maybe I could just start with a summit tank and modify it as sewerdude suggests.

The only name that comes to mind for rewelding it is Chark. Don't know if he would be up for it or not. Also, some of the guys at the badlands are pretty slick with the tig.

yeah, cuz editing it out makes everything all good right???

Nate, you should have a couple hundred people around you that can do the job. Indy ain't that far away ya know. You're lookin' at a <$70 job, if you can find the right can. Fittings are cheap outta jegs/ summit.

You no mig Al, find yourself a fab shop. They can do a custom tig tank and then you just put a blader in or have the one you already have modified.
