Power steering pump growl

OK, what is the normal life of an XJ PS pump. Mine is a 2000 with 81,000 miles and 31's since new. The pump works fine but you can now here it growl in harmony with the RMP's when driving slow. I'm sure it makes noise all the time but the highway noises mask it. Is this normal and/or reasonable for an occasional wheeler? I don't mind upgrading the pump at a later date just wondering.

noise like that can be caused by a power steering line resting against the body, engine or bracket, the likes should not touch anything, also as for an upgrade the AGR pumps are very loud and troublesome, most who have bought tehm have since gotten rid of them, it might be time to drain teh system and replace teh fluid also.
