I have an 85 xj with 2.8L Just put a new rebuilt long block in it. It will fire but it won't stay running. I have spark, and great compresion, anf the carb definitely shoots fuel. Can anyone help me?

OH YEAH, i DON'T WANT ANY OPINIONS THAT SAY ANY THING ABOUT "YOU SHOULD OF PUT A 4.0 IN THERE"

Are you sure all vacumn line are hooked up correctly?
Timing set?
Loose distributor?
Plug wires on right?
Hope it turns out to be somthin simple.

Just for starters check your float level. The timing may be off also. Can you smell unburnt fuel?

Fuel pressure... when I put in a new 2.8 in my old XJ I was flooding it and I had to put in a manual pressure regulator which allowed me to drop down the pressure.

P.S. You should have put in a 3.4 in it :) it's a drop in :D

Timing is correct
Vaccum lines have been checked and rechecked

Iwill absolutely check the float and fuel pressure

Does the thing have a ballast resistor for the coil? If so, check that.
