98 Cherokee O2 sensor issues

Last week the wires on the rear O2 sensor got pulled or chewed off. Found it a day later after check engine light came on. Removed old sensor and ripped hole in catalytic converter so welded in a new threaded nut. Installed new rear sensor hooked it up and reset codes. Today threw three codes, got it checked and is saying front and rear sensors are both malfunctioning as well as high voltage from rear sensor. Just wondering it something else could be going on or if one faulty sensor would mess up the other. Could rear sensor wire being loose and bouncing around possibly short out the front sensor? What are the chances of both sensors going out at same time? Could one bad sensor throw a false code on a second good sensor?

1998 4.0 114,000 miles, no engine or fuel upgrades beyond stock

Thanks Chris
