XJ front bumper building

Home brewed or a kit bumper ?

Scroll down to the bottom left of this page .....

Hey, thanks. I did a search and came up with nothing.:dunno:

The bumper I would like to build will have a wench mounted on it. I use my XJ in mud. No rock climbing around these parts.

JCR has a DIY bumper kit. Several vids about it on you tube. I have one on the way that is made for a winch. Give me a month and I'll let you know how it goes.

Mad Max?

To the OP I would look into the JCR like what was said up a few post. This saves you from having to cut the steel up. But if you want a tube style winch bumper then forget about JCR DIY bumper kit.

HTH

Dirtbound Offroad (speaking of Mad Max) also makes a weld-it-yourself bumper kit.

I went the simple route, figured I could do a winch mount on the hitch eventually so I could swap it front and rear if needed. Plan on doing a write up some day but, just cut a 6x2 to shape and capped it and put a hitch tube on it. If your looking for a better integrated hitch then this may not be the way to go but, it is easy and out of the way when wheeling.

Kind of what I was thinking . I use my XJ on a farm and of course, there is a lot of mud. I have an old Warn 12K, maybe even bigger. Big sucker and very heavy. Might try to sell it and just invest into a new, smaller wench.

Thanks guys.

Oh, I do need a brush guard too!

I built mine. Not perfect, but works great. And yes, I know in the picture it's slightly lower on passenger side. That has been fixed since the picture. I left adjustment in the bolt holes for that exact reason.

I did the same. My winch sits approx 1" from my radiator. I wanted as much ground clearance as possible. If you do build one, now is an excellent time to extend your bumper brackets and build a steering box brace
