So my 1990 xj (4.0/ax15) rear maim leaked pretty good. I had an upcoming 400+ mile trip coming so I wanted to take care of it. 153k miles on it, original seal.
I had a killer time trying to bang the upper seal out. I tried loosening all the main caps, turning the crank pulley bolt, soaking it. I ended up getting a brass punch and hitting the metal rod in the seal pretty liberally, and then a part of the block wall fell off.

A local guys on facebook groups said he got the seal out and had the same cracked off piece. Rtv'd it and never saw a leak.
Well I still can't get the seal out to try that.
What are my options? Yank the motor? Fix it? Or replace the motor?
Thanks in advance
