Here is an opportunity for recreation interests to interact with the
BLM. It is short notice and a weekday; however, interested groups
may be able to arrange weekend assistance with this project. BLM
contact information is provided below.

Volunteers needed for Bonanza Spring clean up.

On February 26th, 2003, the Bureau of Land Management will host a
volunteer cleanup project At Bonanza Spring off of National Trails
Highway (Route 66) approximately 65 miles from Needles.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to give something back to the
country and the community by helping to restore this riparian area
for recreation use and wildlife habitat. In the past the spring was
the site of a trespass home site that was removed during previous
clean up efforts.

Work still needing to be accomplished is removal of trash and
abandoned equipment from the area. This will bring the project one
step closer to establishing primitive campsites for public use and
enjoyment. This is especially exciting because this will be the first
campground in the Needles area managed by the BLM since the transfer
of Hole in the Wall and Mid Hills camp grounds to the Park Service in
1994. Additional planned improvements for the site include a trail
head, parking area and day use picnic tables.
