modify broken power antenna to move manually?

can i gut the power antenna motor/gearbox and get my once power antenna to move manually? this would be nice on the trails when i am using the MP3 player anyways and not the radio, so i can lower the antenna and not break it off..

any tips or advice?

I say get a short 6" whip antenna and not worry about it.

I guess the simple way to do this is to find the small wire from the radio that powers the antenna, and add a switch to that wire. If you interrupt the low amp wire to the relay, you can use small gauge wire to get the job done.

The idea works well on my '90, but I spent an afternoon cleaning up the mess under the dash, and wired more switches for future expansion.

i would but the antenna doesnt work, the motor just runs and runs and runs.
