Do I need to check my backlash if I'm removing my Carrier from my Dana 30 to change my inner seals?

Nope.Just make sure you re-install the bearing caps on the side they came off. done my seals on both jeeps.

According to this writeup (http://www.stu-offroad.com/axle/d30seals/seal-1.htm) you'll be OK as long as you put the shims back in on the sides where they came out.

Questions like this are better kept in the tech forums where a much wider group of knowledgable folks are likely to see and respond to them. Not that there aren't plenty of tech-savvy guys in SoCal.

no need to mess with shims unelss you're replacing the bearings. take it out, put it back in.
