On a scale from 1 to FML how bad is this?

Sooo....we might have a little rust.

I'm still new at wrenching on the jeep and I'm guessing I should step back and let my dad, the expert welder, play this round of "fix the xj".

And...how worried should I be about this? (Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm new and learning.)

The picture isn't showing up for me...so if you don't see it either, here's the link: https://www.flickr.com/photos/projectshalfdone/16359480285/

That spot isn't that big of deal. I did that spot on my 96 a couple of years ago with a MIG.
The real problems started when I took the carpets up in the cargo area, started following the rust all the way through the under back seat, under the front passengers seat and then on to the front floorboards. Then back up the other side ending at the gas filler bulge. In other words that was just the start of the problem. The worst was where your rust through was, the rear drivers side near the gas filler bulge and the passengers side floor boards. But I found many spots that needed repair, some minor some major.

The good news is after wire bruhsing the patch and surrounding area with a wire brush on a angle grinder, putting a coat of Hammerite on and then undercoating everything, the repairs look fine after two years.

My prep was to wire wheel everything down to bare metal, wipe it down with a strong solvent, coat it with flat black Hammerite and dry it with a couple of 500 watt lamps.

Better have dad teach you how to weld

Haha, I can weld a tiny bit but...not enough to feel like I would do a quality repair on this.

We've flaked off the loose stuff....removed a rats nest....*shame*...and grinded it down. Turns out...it's about a foot long.

So now we are looking for a piece long enough to bolt and weld on to it. Dad's method...is call every scrap yard in a 50 mile radius. So that's holding up progress.

Meanwhile...it's snowing and I'm just sitting here....guess I should...I don't know, do work for my actual job.
