Front DS question

I've ordered an IRO hack n' tap SYE for my 1999 XJ, with a 4.0 engine and NP242 TC. According to IRO's installation instructions (here's a link: http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merchant2/Hack%20and%20Tap%20Install%2027%20Spline.pdf) the hack n' tap can be used with a front DS from a "1998" XJ with an automatic transmission. But, according to all reliable on-line sources that I can find (see post #7 in this thread, for example: http://naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1004218) 1989 to 2001 XJs with 4.0 engines and auto transmissions all use the same front DS. So, unless I'm missing something, there's no point in limiting my junk yard search specifically for only a 1998 model year XJ. I should be able to use a front DS from any '89 to '01 XJ with a 4.0 and automatic transmission. Right? Or have I failed to consider something?

Good question. But It seems that the DSs are the same for HP and LP D30s. Quadratec sells the same Crown Automotive shaft for all 4.0 automatic transmission XJs for '89 to '01. Their site doesn't state any exception for LP axles.

That's a crazy price. I had a pair of custom shafts made for my 79 ramcharger @ Denny's. Basically 2 front driveshafts with larger joints and thicker shafts........and I only paid 800 for both of them, and that included shipping AND new pinion yokes front & rear.

I did the IRO hack n tap over the weekend. The shaft I used was from an 01 with the low pinion D30 and worked just fine. This was also on a 99 xj with the 242 TC
