Ok guys, done a little research and want to confirm my suspicions. Right now I have an 88 XJ that Im planning to swap later model trans and t case for the 23 spline upgrade.. I have the swap figured out except for the speedo gear.

I am assuming that the type of speedo gear you buy is not determined by what year trans/tcase you have but what year the Jeep/Speedometer is. I know this is prob a dumb question and it will probably become clear once I start swapping components but figure this will help others doing similar swaps.

Common sense tells me that if the speedo is cable driven, you need the gear used for a cable... But how does that work for someone swapping cases that one used a short shaft electronic and the other uses the long shaft electronic? :confused1
