8.25 27 to 29 spline upgrade

Hey all,

I've got 2 chrysler 8.25 axles - ones a 27 spline open diff and ones a 29 spline Trac Lok. the 29 spline track loo has bad pinion bearings. the 27 spline is currently under my 97 XJ.

What would it take to make a 29 spline open diff?

Is the carrier splined? Could I move the axle shafts and side/spider gears of the 29 to the 27 and effectively change it to a 29? would the wheel bearings change too?

not saying its something I want to do, just wondering.

more than likely i'd rebuild the 29 spline with an air locker and throw that under the 97.

The spider gears match the number of axle splines, the axle bearings and race are a difference size and the brakes may be larger. I can't remember if the axle tube diameter is different or not.
Probably best to rebuild the 29 spline differential and swap them out.
