slip yoke problem

I'm not sure if it's the cause of your clunk, but it looks like your driveshaft is too short. I've never had one where the splines are visible at rest. How long have you had the shaft and how long have you had the clunk?
 
That looks fine - that's just a 96-01 style transfer case and slip yoke with no grease boot or dust slinger on it.

Not sure what the clunk is, unfortunately.
 
huh, I'll have to pull the dust boot off the next one I see in the bone yard-- had no idea the shaft was splined that much farther than the shaft normally engaged.

I stand corrected.
 
I *think* but am not sure that it basically bottoms out in the yoke maybe 1/2" past the splines. I'd have to look at one of mine, but I've had the one on my MJ running with less engagement than that for years and have no issues with it... so far...
