'88 Xj: Wet Right Foot During Heavy Rainfall. Why?

I drove home during some heavy rain a few weeks ago and my right show got soaked during the 1h commute.

I just used a flashlight to examine the under side of the dash but, saw no clues. This suggests a more complex leak path to my accelerator pedal. Is this the result of some body caulk drying out (in the wiper motor cave) and beginning to leak or the windshield seal? I was told my Xj came from AZ and spent much of its life there when I purchased it in 2009. This may account for drying body caulk but, I do not know if this is occurring elsewhere on the chassis.

I thought I might see 'traces' where the water had traveled but, nothing was evident.

Any ideas?
