I have found most XJ ' with a 6 cylinder 4X4 man Tran to have 3.07 gears.. The Dana 44 came in the tow package from 87 to 90. But all my years of junk yard hunting I haven't seen any past 88 in an xj. Mj can be had from 87 to 92 with the metric ton package
Actually the dealers could order any rear end and ratio during those years. The only way to tell is to crawl under and look at the housing and check the tag. If no tag, pull the cover and look at the markings on the ring gear or count the teeth. I have seen D35's and D44's with 4.56 gears. For some reason Arizona had a lot of low gear axles.
