Does anybody know where I can find the etching in the pinion that tells me the variance offset so I can get a baseline for a regear? The pinion head shows the matching ring number on one spot and the other place shows a symbol and a zero. There must be another location that gives me the plus or minus from the default pinion depth. Does anybody have an idea?
Here is my old and new pinions. Old pinion on the left that I need the variance:

Unless your new gears are Dana's.. the variance mark means nothing, and from what I see they aren't. Dana is the only one that machines them that way.

General rule if it isn't eched, then consider it to be zero.
