As long as it is mechanically sound I don't see why not. I'd just do a budget build though, that way you don't have to worry when you break things.

Just do a cheap build and keep most of the mods bolt on for the time being that wya you can transfer them easier. Then progress the build over time as long as the rig is holding up. There will be a point in the build, where it is worth it to rebuild the engine if its burning too much oil

Never too late, especially with no rust. They make more oil every day, it is getting harder and harder to find rust free XJs.
