np 242 swap possible

my buddy has a 21 spline 242 in his xj that is pretty well fu!!ed up i have found a few 21 spline 231 transfer cases out of older 4cyl wranglers would this be a cheap and easy way out or just better off rebuilding it?

The 21 spline 132 should bolt up fine. The only thing I would look at is to make sure that the t-case input shaft is about the same length.

i almost swapped mine when i did my lift because the 231 had the sye kit on it. but when i started looking at it the elec. connectors and speedo was different.

thats only what i remember, i could be wrong. just something to look into.

not sure if it runs a toner ring either that controls shifting.

the jeep it was in was my parts jeep that was running fine but i had to manually shift it.
