Ignition/Shifting troubles, please help me out

I recently had to replace the little black gear that actuates the ignition linkage. Since doing that, whenever I start my jeep, I have to reach under the dash board and push the other linkage (that goes to the shifter) down inorder to shift out of park, and when I want to turn my jeep off, I have to pull the linkage back up (towards the steering wheel).

Anyone have a clue what I can do to fix this? It's driving me nuts and making me not want to drive my jeep.

Thanks.

Just disconnect it under the shifter bezel... just takes a small flat head to pop it off...

Or properly adjust it so that it functions correctly.
