2WD to 4WD swap

I keep finding conflicting info on this so I only have one question I need answered. This is for a 2000 XJ AW4.

Is the rear tail cone on the AW4 removable? Basically can I remove the one and bolt up a 231? Or do I need to buy a transmission too?

No, you need a 4wd transmission

In order to make a 2WD AW4, 4WD it requires full disassemble. SO not worth it. AW4s usually go for an inexpensive price. Most times combo'd with a 231 or 242. If you buy sperate make sure they are both late model so the in/out splines match.

D30 axle is pretty much plug n pray. Obviously you need a front drive shaft also. I recommend a HPD30, non-disco. So pretty much 91-99 XJ axle.
