Could someone please tell me what this part is called?

I want to replace it when I install my D30 locker because there is a chunk of it that is missing - is that something I should worry about?

It's just a dust boot to keep rocks out. Alloy usa make a replacement piece that's more like a seal

What would be the benefit of have this boot grease-able?

The grease-able one keeps out mud and water and dirt. The plastic shield just keeps out the bigger stuff.

You live in a climate (Denver) where you drive through slushy brine in the winter, so your inner axle seals should last longer with the greasable o-ring seals instead of the factory dust ring that allows moisture and goo into the axle tube.

Thanks XJeeper - that's good to know. CDOT lays down magnesium chloride in the winter which does wonders to our vehicles! I'd bet I have a nice amount of that in there right now.

Does the C8.25 have these seals as well?

No, the rear axle is sealed at the outer axle flange area.
