Disc brake spacer rings?

Are disc brake spacer rings required when installing 8.8 discs on a 9" rear? I don't remember seeing that in any write ups but the currie website says they must be used.

an 8.8 no, a 9 maybe, 8.8 is a clip axle and a 9 is semifloat (like a dana44).

Some use wheel spacers as the 8.8 is a bit narrower than a stock XJ axle.

Some people use the spacers with the stock axle retaining plate, some people use disc brake TJ retainers and redrill the holes.

I think most use the spacer.

I see. Does that go between the axle and the retaining plate?

no it goes between the seal and the retaining plate
