Jeep runs like crap

ive got a 89 with the 4.0 and when it is cold or it hasnt run for a couple of hours ill start it up and it will run like crap....like its missing and it has no power and smells like it runs rich...but then when it warms up the problem goes away and it runs normal...whats the problem

First guess is an injector that isn't closing properly. The fuel rail stays pressurized after you shut off, so if the injector dribbles, it will load up one cylinder with gas. Once it burns off, the injector will work well enough, and the problem goes away while you're driving.
