xj no crank no start

My 1998 xj 4.0 automatic will not turn over. Today it started with a slow turnover most of the day. It usually goes WRRH and starts today it was WRRRRRH WRRH start battery is good. The NSS is bad I know i have no backup lights and occasionally have to start in neutral. Is my starter bad or will the NSS go out and not allow it to start in neutral? Any help appreciated thanks

Hit the starter with a BFH and it started so I guess I will replace that first. Thought I would let anyone know who might have similar problem in future.

Sounds like you have two problems. A bad NSS and probably a bad starter.

I'd get that starter replaced and "refurbish" your NSS. Often restores full function and it isn't particularly difficult. Here is how.
