Hatch Open/Rear Defrost Light

I have a 98 Sport. Recently my Hatch open indicator light has become stuck on with a faint glow also on the rear defrost switch. Both lights turn off when I press the rear defrost switch. Has anyone had this happen? Whats the fix?

could you please be a little more specific?

I would check the rear hatch wiring harness. My defroster in my 98 got flakey and the rear wiper started acting weird. I put a VOM on the harness and I thought it was the defroster ground. When I pulled the harness out several wires had chafed and shorted from the constant bending at the hatch joint. I ended up re-building that harness and added a bunch of heat shrink tubing as a added precaution. Problems solved.
