on my buddies 99 xj the cross member it has 1 bolt and 1 nut each side, what is everyone doin to accept the added 1", a person can run a longer bolt in 2 of the four holes but what has been found best for the other 2 that just stub down! he thanks all

You remove the studs (they will unscrew with some persuasion) and then you replace them with the appropriate sized metric bolts.

^ Penetrating oil and a pipe wrench. Replace with M10x1.5 bolts.

The studs have little shoulders that will not pass through the crossmember holes.

You must lower at least one side at a time to remove the studs. Otherwise they will strip in the frame.


The fix for that is to drill large 1-1/2" holes in the side of the frame rail to top nut the new bolts with nylock nuts.

i just double nutted the studs and removed them... put in a new bolt.

yeah thats a sweet idea, hmmm ohh yeah! he owns a jeep and like the rest of us has a bigger laundry list than his $$ account can handle! but good idea!!
