what MPG are you guys getting? i got a 97 4.0l with an AW4 and average around 16.5 MPG with my front driveline pulled. its bone stock with 3.55 gears and 31's (only good tires i had and will be getting stock size tires back soon)

what can i do to get better MPG? and tips and tricks?

I don't want to talk or think about it. I get 13 mpg in my 01 :( . I drive all back roads and short distances for the most part. The automatic sucks my gas away and I have 4.88 gears and 33's. My old xj on 35's with a ax15 could get anywhere between 15 and 20 depending on the type of driving.

The only thing you can do to increase mileage substantially is swap a 5 speed in. 16.5 is not bad for a xj on 31's and a automatic.

Gears...

with 30s and 3.07s (5speed) I got 21-22 all freeway. now with 3.55's and 33s i get maybe 14, maybe. im hoping 4.56s get me back up towards 17-18.

then again when on the freeway I drive 75+ so im always having to keep my foot in it. if i backed off to 60-65 id probably see a good jump in mileage

I'm getting ~18 avg with 235/75/R15s, mixed highway and city, 4.0 AW4. I've gotten a bit over 20 on long highway trips. Anybody report any gains by doing the Neon injector swap? Thinking about doing that here when the weather gets more appropriate to wrenching.

I used to get 14mpg but improved to 16-17 once i lightened it up and drove less lead footed. Also a grill block helps. ;-)

15mpg with 91 4.0 AW4 3.55 and 31s

19.5 with 2000 aw4 3.55 225/75/16s

last time I calulated with my wheeler

21mpg with 92 ax15 4.88 33s

On 235/75R15's, AX-15, and 3.07's I get 18+ in town and 23-24 on the highway. I'm pretty careful with the skinny pedal, and my speedo is pretty darn close to correct. I also run a CAI with an air dam, which gave me maybe an extra one to 1.5 mpg.

OP, your 16.5 mpg might be pretty good depending on what kind of driving you're doing. If I recall my window sticker correctly, it was rated at 16/21 for the automatic straight from the factory. You've got fatter tires, which is going to hurt on the highway.

I must be in mine way to much, I wished I got over 15. I do have my suspitions that I am running rich, my exhaust pipe is as black as coal. Its fuel injected but something sure seems wrong if Im getting 10 MPG and you guys are getting 15 and 20 MPG

What temps are you running?
