Have a 242J T-Case in a 96 XJ Sport What else is a direct fit?

I have a 96 XJ Sport. It has a NP242J T-Case with the 1 piece tailshaft.

What other t-case is a direct fit replacement? Can I get any of the 231's in there?

I was checking Rock Auto and apparently the 242 in 96 XJ's ONLY fit that year (They're designation is a UMT2087).

The Grand Cherokee in 96 says it takes a UMT2082. I have a line on one of these, but will it bolt up?

They are both 23 spline input, 27 splint outputs.

I think it depends on the input shaft distance?

Any help on which case is a direct swap would be helpful!

It should be a direct bolt in for the 231 as long as it is a 23 spline input and is a 96+ unit. The only issue I have ever had was getting the "part time" light to work. The harness has an adapter at the end that is different between the two cases. Just get the pigtail with the case if you pull it yourself.

Any chance a 96 Grand cherokee 242 case will work?
