tcase grinding

So, I recently rebuilt my transfercase and it works fine in every gear, but when ever I put it in neutral it feels like there are teeth still trying to engage inside the case. What would be causing this?

Forgot to mention that I have a novak cable shifter and AA SYE and it grinds in neutral even with shifter unhooked

Check to make sure the snap rings on the main shaft are fully seated in the groove.

make sure that with the front plug you put the ball and detent in the right way or the spring will catch in the gears and make it grind b/c it cant stay locked in.
