My daughter came home with her 2000 XJ (160K miles) today and said the check engine light was on?????

I got my code reader out and plugged it in. I was reading the codes when I inadvertently turned the key to not just on but to start.

I lost all power to everything.......nothing happens when I turn the key.:flame:

I obviously fried a major fuse to link.

Any suggestions? I really don't want to pay for a tow to the shop.

she had left the light on and cooked the 6 yr old battery about a week ago.

I came home and cut the leads to the positive side of the battery, the wires were corroded inside the insulation. I had a spare battery clamp in my junk drawer. Fixed

Same thing happened to me a while back, replaced the battery and cleaned the terminals, thought it was over but it wasn't. Happened a few more times until I cleaned all the grounds really well/scuffed up all metal surfaces the grounds touch and it hasn't happened since. I'd go clean up all your grounds asap.
