Drilling through the floor... is the gas tank safe?

Simple question- will it be safe to drill through the floor in the cargo area of my 2000 XJ? I want to install the cargo rack I got, but I don't wanna drill through the gas tank...

Put a spacer, such as a socket, around the drill bit so the bit can only go so far through.

The gas tank is directly against the floorboard

The sides are generally open, so if you can measure 3 or 4 ways and be sure you're in the clear then go ahead. Otherwise lower the tank first

^this. It is directly against the floor, a stereo shop drilled a hole in mine trying to mount a speaker box years ago. lower the tank or be damn sure you're off far enough to the side before you start drilling.

The gas tank really is wedged up against the floor. Don't do what i did and find your gas tank with a 4.5" cutting whee!!!
