Ford 8.8?

So yesterday my dad bought a 1970 ford mustang for 100 bucks, the engine and tranny are gone, just body, interior and rear axle left. My dad bought it just for the interior, and he said if i want i can have the axle. I believe its a ford 8.8 (haven't inspected it too much yet). My question is would it be worth it to pull it and swap it with my dana 35 in my XJ?:helpme:

probably 28 spline and has small cross pin, not to mention it might be too narrow.
Go find and exploder axle.

I don't think a Mustang would have have an 8.8 back in 1970. Either a dropout style 9" or an 8". They didn't start putting the 8.8 in Mustangs until 1985.

width
bolt pattern
brakes


You're much beter off doing the same old tired explorer 8.8 that everyone has done, because it's cheap. I managed an 8.8 swap for less than $300.

take some more measurements... quick search on 8.8 specs
