2wd wheel bearings the same as 4wd?

seen a pair of 2wd unit bearings, i couldnt see if they were splined or not, they did have what looked to be a cover that is removable with an allen wrench.
is there an actual difference? are 2wd units still splined as the 4wd are?

What year? '93 is a changeover year. Early 2wd '93s apparently had the old combination hub and rotor with serviceable bearings (per Rockauto).

My 2wd '93 has unit bearings. As you note, splines are not visible and I am not about to try to remove the "cover" and "shaft" to see if they are splined. I assume they are because I have not found a specific listing for a 2wd unit bearing.

Anyone know for sure how these units are set up for the 2wd '93 and later?

The front bearings on my '98 XJ 2WD were splined. A splined stub goes in there and is
torqued down with a big retaining nut.
