Re: is this ok to use?

Looks like regular old antifreeze. No problem.

Re: is this ok to use?

Make sure it's not made in Godless communist china where the red army managers keep their 'hired' slaves under-foot making products designed to screw us, i.e., gluten with an additional ingrediant causing the poisoning of our pets, children, and adults.., lead based paints etc., for toys, tools that break easily, and perhaps even your anti-freeze that will degrade parts, etc. After all of that.., the socialists in that country, (and ours), plus the capitalist pigs in our country who have outsourced American jobs forcing American Workers out of work causing for them to stand in socialist food stamp lines, etc., etc., etc., are all part of the plan to wreck America. Call up the company on the label and have them prove that it is made in America, by Americans, using American resources. I don't trust a damned thing made by those bent on destroying us, nor those bastards who are traitors, (government/businesses), laughing all the way to the bank while heading out to their chalets. Would not have to rant if'in you had shown the reverse side of the gallon container's labelling. :lecture:

Re: is this ok to use?

The EPA [Environment Prohibitions Agency] has probably driven out all the US made anti-freeze manufacturers so I doubt you would find any US made anti-freeze unless it meets EPA standards which means it does not work well. Kind of like what they have done to insecticides, laundry detergent, high efficiency flush toilets that you have flush 4 times to get a normal american turd down and such like that.

Re: is this ok to use?

I think congress should consider changing the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) name to the
US Job Elimination Agency (JEA).
SAD!!

Re: is this ok to use?

I know Parts Master oil is from Ashland, and I'm pretty sure their antifreeze is domestic too. I've used both the oil and the antifreeze and they're fine.

I'm not sure I'd go quite as far as some - I think if it says it's made in USA and especially if it references an American source, that's probably good enough - but I do agree that I'd rather not put Chinese stuff in my Jeep.

edit to add: here's the data sheet on it, with address of manufacturer in Texas.

Sopus Products is Pennzoil-Quaker State, itself a division of Royal Dutch Shell.

New T-stat

Vehicle info.
96 cherokee 4.0 auto 4x4 33in tires 4.5 lift np231

Ok so i was driving with my ac on low to med in about 100 degree heat in stop and go and my temp got almost up to the white line before red and then after cruising at 60 mph for a couple miles it didn't cool down then i turned off the ac and it went down to about 220. So i put in a 180 T-stat and it runs at like 215 with air on high and when air is not on runs at about 180 to 210 is this to cold?

Re: New T-stat

Check your Aux Fan for proper operation. Sounds like the extra load from the AC is not getting dealt with.

By and large, an engine should operate 10 to 15 degrees warmer than the T-Stat. So, in an ideal (yah, right...) world with a 180 T-Stat you should run 190 to 195 degrees prior to AC operation. The condenser dumps heat in front of the radiator which preheats the air. The Aux Fan is there to deal with the extra load and also (on OBDII XJs) come on at 218 as a safety. Not sure whatt he safety temp setting is on the OBDI XJs.

Re: New T-stat

well im fat and us fat guys like our A/C lol
and i think its fine cuz now like i said it will hit 215 a/c full cranked in stop and go and 100 degree heat and then run at like 185 when the ac is not on so it should be just fine. plus i know when i go out wheeling it will get a little hotter since your going slow and in 4x4 so the 180 t stat should be great

another electric fan thread!

so today i was going down the freeway with a slight up hill with ac on and the temp gauge was just shy of the 3/4 mark. So when i got home i looked up radiators since i have a stock one in it lol, and ordered a CFS 2 core all metal radiator :D.

Secondly, i have done just about as much research as i can do and i cannot find out how much the stock mechanical fan pulls cfm wise. But i have heard that they don't pull more that 2500 cfm at 100% power which i would believe it at max or close to it RPM. So what i am wondering is Zirgo has a a 16" dia. 3.5 mount depth straight blade fan that will pull 2830 cfm but will have that fit in there with out removing the bolts for the stock mech. fan? or they have this fan http://www.zirgo.com/index.php. The reason i am asking is just in case something happens do my electric fan i can swap it out and put the mech fan back in. I just want to know what i should do.

Re: another electric fan thread!

Since the XJ radiator is only 11 inches tall and about 31 inches wide, a 16" fan is not ideal. The mechanical fan and shroud already cover half the radiator so you would have to take it out. And if a recall there isn't much more than 4 inches between the radiator and the pulleys to begin with. I would say you would definitly have to pull the mechanincal fan.
Even with the 16", it is still covering only half the radiator and is overhanging 2+ inches top and bottom. This is why most of us run a dual fan setup to get full coverage of the radiator. Many 12" fans I have seen pull at least 1800 CFM and when you double it 3600 provides great cooling capacity. I have mine set up so one turns on when the thermostat opens and the other if it reaches 225(which hardly ever happens), and both when the a/c is on regardless of temp. In 98 degree heat with ac on it stays around 210.
Also, how much amperage is that thing going to pull?

Re: another electric fan thread!

well i just measure the mechanical fan and its 14 inches so i would throw in a 14 inch electric fan and i found one that pulls 2700 cfm :) and pulls like 9 amps i think

Re: another electric fan thread!

If you have an older Jeep (96- I think), you can upgrade your electric fan with that of 97+. I put a 97+ fan on my 88.
