1999 rear hatch locking mech

The locking mechanism on my wife's 99 seems to be stuck... the door shuts but the lever prevents it from going into the slot to fully lock/stay shut.

Is this fixable or just find a replacement for it?

Probably cheap at the JY/PnP, easy too.

This problem sounds like an adjustment problem with the linkage. Have you tried latching the mechanism with the linkage removed? Leave the hatch open and use a philips to latch with. Had a similar problem with one of the latches on the hood of my Jeep and an adjustment to the linkage solved the problem.

In the picture it is closed, you would need to open it for it to function correctly.

Clean and lubricate it. If that doesn't work get another one.

tim is right about that, on my 99 i sprayed pb blaster in it and now all my problems with difficulty opening the rear hatch are gone
