Well this last weekend went to go start up my XJ right after some rain we had and went to crank it over and the engine fired up but the starter continued to crank, so went to go pull the battery cable so that it wouldnt fry the starter and the battery terminal was so hot it burned to of my fingers instantly. Anybody have any idea what it could be or is it just some wierd little quirk

What Year XJ ?

Install a new starter relay in the PDC. Inspect the ignition switch.

its a 90, it has a new i replaced the starter relay a while back, is it possible something is grounding out?

While the rain might be related to your problem you should look at the ignition switch. They are known to melt the connector and wiring duet the heat of high amp draw.
