I'm swapping my front axle in my 88 xj (non CAD D30) to a D30 from a 98 xj. I am going to use calipers/pads for a 98 xj, but I recently replaced the hubs on the 88 so is it possible to swap them over to the newer axle as long as I use rotors for an '88?

I read the FAQ on this, but I couldn't figure out if the newer calipers would be compatible with the old style rotors.

as long as the rotors match the unit bearings and the calipers match the knuckles it will work.

I had a 97 axle with 87 knuckles, but it had 97+ unit bearings.

So it had 97+ rotors paired with the 87 calipers. No problems. If you get it wrong when you stick the wheel back on it will force the rotor into the caliper and the wheel won't turn.
