Burning oil , Long drive ahead!

If the oil is coming from worn cylinder walls & piston rings, I have heard good things about RESTORE oil additive. It contains some sort of dissolved metal that plates out onto the cylinder walls, restoring compression on old engines. Not sure how long it takes to work, so I can't tell you if it will help you on your trip.

If it is coming from valve stem seals, those can be changed fairly easily after the valve cover is off, provided you have some way of preventing the valves from dropping into the cylinder (either an air compressor and spark plug adapter, or a rag inserted into the spark plug hole with piston at TDC).

Otherwise, yeah, bring some extra oil.
