Hey.
Sister just got a 2003 Grand Cherokee. She's got an enormous dog and wanted a gate for the cargo area. Dealer said she can't use the Jeep dealer gate because it interferes with the side airbags or curtains operation. He suggested they look into a "soft gate".
Anyone have any insight into this?
Thanks,
Hamilton

Quick question - will the 'enormous' dog fit into the rear area with a gate? I have transported my "nieces" before in the XJ (Husky and a Yellow Lab) and they take up the whole rear area, with seat down! Check http://www.raingler.com/ to see if they have what she's looking for

I just installed one from Quadratec in an XJ for a friend. It fits entirely behind the rear seat (if that's where you choose to position it) and cannot possibly interfere with the side air bags.
It's made of moderately lightweight 1/2" tubing and uses a pair of telescoping columns for support. You crank up on a pair of wing nuts to spread the "feet" at top and bottom between the cargo floor and the headliner. If she intends to run with the rear seat folded down, you'd need a supplemental extension bar -- the two loops that come standard fit nicely above the seat back.
If this dog is big AND energetic/rambunctious, the Quadratec pet barrier may not be heavy enough to keep him (?) in the back. Works fine for a Border Collie, probably wouldn't hold Marmaduke.

Thank you. The Raingler net looks like the trick.
