8.25 axle play question

OK, picked up an 8.25 with limited slip. Seals looked good, pulled the cover, wear on the teeth looked good no metal floating around. Put a new gasket on it and stuck it in the Jeep. When I mounted the right tire I noticed I could slide the axle in and out about 1/16th of inch. An insight as to what the problem is and is it safe to drive till can fix it next week.

Sounds normal, it has c clips with small amount of in and out play.

Thanks for the input. Thats what I was thinking, but wasn't sure.
