87 XJ with cut fenders, how to make look better?

Help, just got this XJ and the guy I got it from hacked it up pretty good.
Any suggestions on how to make it look a little cleaner maybe?

I'll have to take some more. Its not pretty, he apparently cut in too close to the bottom rocker under the rear door and left a big hole there, which he filled full of that expandable foam used in houses for gap filler.

That is the perfect recipe for rust. That foam holds the moisture.
 
Thanks guys for the advice. Decided to get rid of this rig and got me a 98 Cherokee Sport 4x4 in clean shape to start with. Not cutting, all bone stock right now never been offroad.
