Probably battery temp sensor in the bottom of the tray, depending on what year you have.

97+ XJs had a battery temp sensor in the battery tray. TJs also had the same sensor.

My 96 also has a battery temp sensor. I think they
were only on the XJs for a couple years.
I'd hook it up with the new tray to prevent a
possible future CEL.

That's odd. My 96 did not have the battery sensor.
