I removed the timing cover on my 2000 4.0 and there wasn't a button & spring on the cam bolt. The replacement timing chain did not come with a replacement bolt but my 88 XJ had this button and spring. Design change?

Jeep changed from a the spring and button setup to a thrust plate setup in 1998(assuming this since most comp cams and crane cams are listed for 97 and below). You can use the older style aftermarket cams, but you'll have to use the older timing cover with a dimple, older timing set, and use the cam bolt, spring and pin instead of the newer thrust plate.

Then I guess it's 99 or 00--dunno why cam mfgs list that the cams work up to 97s? Anyone torn down a 99 yet?
