Cage start/4-point harness mount

Got MasterCraft seats on the way. Problem one is fabbing mounts for the seat. Think I have a plan for this, just need to figure out best placement for my 6' 4" frame.

My question is in regards to mounts for the 4-point harnesses. In addition, the start of a cage.

Do y'all think this is a good start and a ok mount for the harness if I add a harness attachment bar?:dunno:

I will obviously need mounting plates as well.

From what I've read (and I would do your own research) the positioning of the shoulder strap mount is the most important part of the harness setup. I seem to remember that the mounting point for the shoulder straps needs to be even with or above your shoulders to make sure you aren't hurt when all hell breaks loose, but don't quote me there. plenty of info on the web about where to put the shoulder bar, and any of it is universally relevant whether it be drag racing, desert racing, or rock crawling.

i would worry about securing the harness bar enough by itself, while allowing you to drop the cage later on to finish it... caging these things aint easy.

nope, level with your shoulders, or at max 10 degrees down from there, as seen here!

gonna start construction on my cage here soon. i was talking with the shop owner who's going to build it, we were talking about the harness placement. he said it should be at or below your shoulders.
if the bar is placed above your shoulders it could allow you to move up in a roll over, where as the bar being at or below will help to keep you in the seat better.

at least that's what i was told by a guy who builds and designs cages. which is good for me, and makes sense

thanks for the info, I was unsure which is why I suggested researching it (which would still be a good idea so you don't splatter your dome when all hell breaks loose ;))

I thought the B-pillar hoop would be ideal for allowing perfect placement of the shoulder harness bar. Installed correctly, plenty strong to secure the upper harness. What's another option?

Not sure it's the best way to start a cage, but something to build from?

the plan for my cage is to x in the stock b pillar. the tube will go through the top of the b pillar where it meets the roof and attach to the outer halo. i'll just put some plate on the stock b pillar and add a bar on each side where it should go.

well that's the plan anyway

oh i forgot. this is going in a 2 door, so the stock b pillar is further behind the seats than on the 4 door. sorry. the pic you posted would work for the 4 doors. you could probably get away with just a single diagonal too. but that's up to you

This is how I did mine. I sort of started the the B hoop, then Xed it, then added bars for the seatbelts to go over.

If I remember correctly, you want the harness to exit the seat at 5-15* below level. Each manufacture should have its own mounting instructions, but you can only do so much with space limitations.

Heres some tech on seatbelts, if you want to read a little!

You will love the end result of building your own seatmounts. My dad, who is about your size, is so much more comfortable in my Jeep after I lowered my seats. Before he was bouncing his head off the ceiling, now he can wear his goofy hats while driving.

Thanks Matt, Great information. I have seen the finished product in person, but first time I have seen your thread.
