Cracked exhaust manifold

1993 sport 4.0 AX15 NP231

Sadly i found a very large crack in my exhaust manifold, as funds are low I am going to try my luck at the local pick-a-part. my question is does any one know if and when the exhaust pattern was changed on the 4.0? Basically which years can i take one off of.

Im thinking 87-90 then 91-99 are all the same

renix are diffrent and I think its more like 91 to 95 . 96 to 99 my friends 96 is not like my 95 :greensmok

87-90 have the bung for the EGR tube. 91-99 do not.

You can use the 91-99 from 87-99 by welding on a bung.

Why does the 4.0 exhaust header crack? The exhaust system mounts are too stiff, the unibody flexes too much, and when the engine and trans mounts get weak you will have a cracked header.

What to do? Replace engine and trans mounts and keep them "fresh". Install a flex tube section in the downpipe where it crosses from left to right of the vehicle. Sample flex tube: http://www.cxracing.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CXR&Product_Code=FLEXPIPE-250x8
