1996 Instrument panel no backlights

Hi guys-

Minor problem but a nuisance at night keeping an eye on my gauges. I'd prefer to keep the dash stock. Everything works dandy except for instrument backlights - Here's what I've done so far

-Fuses good, bulbs good, tried a replacement cluster out of my boneyard with same results.

It seems then the problem is further back than the cluster itself? Someone wrote Jeep recalled the plug. I really don't want to tear into the harness if it isn't necessary. Thanks ahead for any input-

I forgot to mention I did install a new carquest headlamp switch. No change.

Several years ago in my 2000 XJ I lost all gauge cluster lights....replaced all of the bulbs, made sure my cluster was seated well. And after much searching it ended up being my turn signal processor on my trailer wiring harness that I had purchased from Uhaul. A new trailer wiring harness solved the problem.

May not relate to you, but it might be something to check?
