98 trans fit 96 cherokee??? couple questions

So I bought a parts jeep. A 98 cherokee. I want to strip the trans and axles out, buy a new TCase (they sold that part and the interior seats), and transfer them to my 96 Cherokee. Both are i6 4.0L engines. The 98 trans should bolt right up, correct? I just need the harness and shifter, etc?

Also, I am converting my 2wd XJ to 4wd. If I bolt up the 98 tranny, do I need to find a TCase from 98+ as well, or will one of the 96 ones work? Cause my buddy has a spare 95/96 NP231 TCase if it will work with the 98 AW4.
