rumbling trunk?

96 4.0 xj: Whenever I hit the slightist bump, a weird rumbling rattle comes from the back area. It's not the spare, it lays in the trunk, and still does it when I took it out. I have no idea where to begin looking.

sounds like an exhaust clearance issue to me.

Whats that mean?

It means that one or more of your exhaust hangers is not doing it's job...or it could mean that if you lifted it the rear most part of your leaf pack is contacting the exhaust pipe. Time to climb under the Jeep and wiggle things.(make sure if you're wiggling your exhaust pipe that the engine is cool or you're wearing some good leather gloves...IT CAN BE HOT!

...and then, just for the hell of it, wait til it's dark, let the Jeep run for awhile and see if your catalytic converter is glowing, a clunk could be a rattle, or a bump...and check your leaf spring bushings.

Also make sure your axle Ubolts are tight.
