homemade snorkle question

Ive seen this done somewhere but i cant seem to find it. How can i build a homemade snorkle for my carbed 4 banger? I was thinking that i could just run the intake hose to the fender, and then fab up something with sometype of pvc pipe and so on. How do i keep the rain out?etc. Ive dedided im making my Jeep a trail rig, i bought a 4runner today that will be m dailydriver. Im so excited bc now i dont have to worry about on road performance as much. I got my 92 runner for 2500 bucks and it has 80K on it and fully loaded with 4wd. Id rather break my Jeep though. Thanks alot.

He has a good idea on diverting the intake to the rear on the firewall. It's in the tech section. I know it's not what you wanted but it is an idea that doesn't require you to cut through the fender.
